On Sunday, 9 November 2014, from 3–4.30 p.m., the Red Dot Design Museum Essen informs about Belgian design in the course of a public guided tour. With a selection of elaborate products, the special exhibition “Light & Shape: Best of Belgian Design”, which documents the design know-how of Belgian designers and manufacturers, provides the prefect frame.

During their tour, visitors will meet among others “D2V2”, a cylindrical pendant lights by manufacturer Dark at night, which is reminiscent of an airplane engine or an oversized ventilator. Moreover, products from other living environments make outstanding design become experiencable at first hand: the ultra-light luggage collection “Hartmann 7R” by Samsonite combines a powerful, yet elegant appearance with a high degree of comfort and sturdy reliability for travelers. Furthermore, an installation of Tupperware clarifies the aesthetics of everyday culture – true to the motto “fresh in form”.

Touching and testing most of the exhibits is explicitly allowed, since outstanding design quality becomes apparent only in use. That also goes for the around 2,000 exhibits of the permanent exhibition, which can be discovered on five floors in the former boiler house of colliery Zollverein.

But also the special exhibition “Formosa Forms” invites the visitors to stay: It comprises about 100 well-shaped and elaborate products and communication projects. The exhibits from the fields of technology and lifestyle show the contrast as well as the symbiosis of tradition and modernity and illustrate the present design understanding of Taiwanese manufacturers and designers.

As the group size allows for a maximum of 25 participants, the Red Dot Design Museum Essen kindly asks for previous registration by phone on +49 201 30104-60 or via e-mail to museum(at)red-dot.de.
