On 27 and 28 September 2014, UNESCO World Heritage Site Zollverein celebrates the huge colliery festival for the 25th time. Again, the Red Dot Design Museum Essen contributes to the broad programme of the industrial culture landscape: young and old visitors can look forward to two free guided tours and a hands-on construction site. The admission fee is reduced (4 Euro) during the whole weekend, for children under 12 it is free.

True to the colliery festival’s jubilee motto – “A love… that does not die” (“Eine Liebe… die nicht vergeht”) – the Red Dot Design Museum wants to get visitors excited about outstanding design with its programme. On Sunday, 28 September, two free guided tours of the world’s largest exhibition of contemporary design (11 a.m.-12.30 p.m. and 1 p.m.-2.30 p.m.) provide insights into creative achievements from about 45 countries.

Design lovers and all those who want to become it can learn a lot about the latest trends in the various fields of international product design at close range. From jewellery and accessories to furniture to entertaining gadgets – between old bricks and rusty steel beams 2,000 innovative and well-shaped exhibits wait for being discovered.

For tomorrow’s creative minds, the museum offers a hands-on construction site on the ground floor: Here, young visitors can let their fantasy run free and discover award-winning design in a playful way. The Red Dot awarded building blocks “Bauhäuser” by Holzhausen invite for touching and conceiving, playing, constructing and experimenting.

As the group size for the free guided tours allows for a maximum of 25 participants, the Red Dot Design Museum Essen kindly asks for previous registrations by phone on +49 (0) 201 30104-60 or via e-mail to museum(at)red-dot.de.
