MTOsport: Design to take off

The autogyro MTOsport has a spectacular appearance in the Red Dot Design Museum: The gyrocopter by the German company AutoGyro from Hildesheim, has been lifted high into the air by industrial climbers in December 2018. Since then, the gyroplane hovers in the Red Dot Design Museum’s stoker’s hall (Schürerhalle) and proves that elaborate designs are very important in various industries – also in aviation.

Autogyros like the MTOsport offer a particularly pure flying experience. This gyrocopter is designed in such a way that it still gives passengers a feeling of maximum security. The use of carbon in the modular panelling makes the MTOsport very light, with a maximum weight of 300 kg. Together with its optimised aerodynamic shape, this enables outstanding flying properties with speeds of up to 185 km/h. The autogyro won the Red Dot: Best of the Best in 2018.

What’s more: in December 2018 the autogyro was the product of the month, chosen by Professor Dr. Peter Zec, founder and CEO of the Red Dot Design Award. He gave the reasons for his choice as follows:

“The MTOsport provides the perfect balance between performance and weight, thus ensuring safety and efficiency. The clear design of the cockpit makes it intuitive to use. Another impressive feature of this autogyro is the high level of seating comfort for passengers. The gyrocopter’s design emphasises the innovations incorporated in the MTOsport and conveys technical innovation, precision and safety.”
