Best of Austrian Design – Award-winning design from Austria is the guest of the Red Dot Design Museum
From 18 December 2024, we will be showing the exhibition ‘Best of Austrian Design’ in cooperation with designaustria, the knowledge centre and representative body for design in Austria. The focus is on award-winning design projects from Austria that have been honoured with the Austrian State Prize for Design and the Austrian Interior Design Award. The exhibition showcases Austria's design strength through works that focus on topics such as progressiveness, social relevance and sustainability. The exhibition is open until 9 February 2025.
Design diversity from the Alpine country
Among the exhibits are products from well-known Austrian manufacturers such as woom, Swarovski Optik, Bene Office Furniture and Otto Bock Healthcare Products, as well as works from Austrian companies and design studios that are less well known in this country. The presentation of these design products and concepts is intended to raise awareness of outstanding Austrian design and strengthen Austria as a business location.
Awards for Austrian design
The Austrian State Prize for Design is awarded every two years by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Economic Affairs. The competition is organised by designaustria, the knowledge centre and representative body for design in Austria. The award honours innovative and creative three-dimensional design and thus contributes to promoting design awareness in the domestic economy.
The Austrian Interior Design Award is awarded by the Building Innovation Cluster (BIC) of Business Upper Austria. The aim of the award is to highlight excellence in the field of interior design. The BIC is an industry network that has been supporting companies in the furniture and wood industry since its foundation in 2000 and can draw on many years of experience in the implementation of large-scale projects.
Moreover, some of the presented products, manufacturers and design studios have not only won awards in national competitions, but have also been honoured by the Red Dot Design Award, one of the most prestigious international design competitions. These include, for example, woom, VELLO bike, Otto Bock, Sunbeam, KISKA, ESKA Lederhandschuhfabrik, Georg Bechter Licht, buero bauer, Design Ballendat and miramondo public design.
