Special exhibition 13 December 2021 – 27 March 2022

Hardly any car brand stands for good design as much as Ferrari - one of the reasons why the sports cars also find their way into museums. The Red Dot Design Museum is currently showing a studio exhibition entitled "Passione Ferrari", which focuses on two vehicles from the Italian car manufacturer: a red Ferrari 488 GTB and a yellow Ferrari SF90 Stradale. Both vehicles have been honoured in recent years with the highest award of the Red Dot Award: Product Design, the Red Dot: Best of the Best.

Ferrari design: latest technology meets craftsmanship
In addition to the cars themselves, the studio exhibition presents photos and sketches taken directly from the Ferrari Centro Stile, the creative heart of the company. This material directs visitors' gaze to the design process itself and illustrates that it is practised in the sense of the Italian term disegno. For in their work, the Ferrari designers under the direction of Flavio Manzoni combine the high technology of the vehicles with the craft processes of design: during the design process, they work in phases like artists on the model in order to connect surfaces with each other, to be able to better judge the forms and proportions and to develop the models step by step.

Creating sculptures in motion
According to Ferrari chief designer Flavio Manzoni, every Ferrari must be a sculpture in motion, combining science and art, technology and design into something new and carrying the Ferrari myth into the future. The success of the Italian company at the Red Dot Award impressively proves that he and his team succeed in doing this time and again: Ferrari has received 24 awards in the last nine years and was named Red Dot: Design Team of the Year in 2019.
