The title “Red Dot: Design Team of the Year” is bestowed each year since 1988 on a design team that stands out through its continuously innovative design work and sets standards in its respective industry. In 2017, this title of honour went to the Canyon Design Team, which consistently uses design as a strategic tool in the bicycle industry. In line with tradition, the bike manufacturer is presenting its design achievements in its own self-designed and realised exhibition, “Design that talks”, in the Red Dot Design Museum.

This German company started as a street vendor for bicycle parts in 1985. It produced its first own bikes in 1996, quickly becoming one of the world’s leading bicycle manufacturers. “Pure Cycling” – this leitmotif reflects both the aspirations and the promised experience of Canyon. The motto is implemented successfully with the help of the design of Canyon bikes: From the drive system to the brakes and gears right through to the suspension, all of the functions are realised in as reduced a form as possible in order to look like one unit. The streamlined appearance allows the observer to always recognise a Canyon bike. Within this, each brand area conveys its own values: with racing bikes appearing light, mountain bikes looking sturdy and triathlon bikes having an aerodynamic look.

Public tour

Public guided tours: "Colours of Our Time"

The Red Dot Design Museum offers a half-hour public tour at 2 p.m. and at 2:30 p.m. each Sunday. Participation is free of charge (however, the normal museum admission fee must be paid).

Please note: The tour will be conducted in German!

Family Day at Zollverein: Free public guided tours at the Red Dot Design Museum

Family Day at Zollverein: The Red Dot Design Museum is offering public tours every half hour between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Admission to the museum is on a "Pay What You Want" basis. Participation in the tours is free of charge.

Museum closed

The Red Dot Design Museum will be closed as of 10 until 24 June 2024 for the public. During this period, we are preparing two new special exhibitions for our visitors: "Milestones in Contemporary Design 2024" and "Design on Stage 2024". Starting Tuesday, 25 June 2024, the exhibitions will be open for the public.
