Children encounter design around the clock: Whether it is the bed in which they sleep, the pencil they use for homework or the toy they play with in their free time. In most cases, they are not aware of the fact that every product they use in their day-to-day-life, features a very special design.
In order to acquaint children with the topic of design, the Red Dot Design Museum Essen offers special guided tours for them. They aim at fostering children’s creative talent and curiosity about their environment and equip them with the basic principles of design.
The ABC in design:
Discovery tour in the Red Dot Design Museum
(for max. 10 children from 6 to 7 years, ca. 2 hours)
The experience tour focuses on the sixth sense, since it is all about perception and the power of imagination which are of particular importance in the creative design process. Playful exercises facilitate children with a special observing technique and train their perception by “stretching” their imagination. Thus, they learn to really see the things they look at.
Design at the fingertips:
Material studies in the Red Dot Design Museum
(for max. 10 children from 8 to 10 years, ca. 2 hours)
Touch, listen and learn: During the experience tour of the Red Dot Design Museum children will discover industrial materials. They are the basis of every product children meet in their everyday life. The playful exercises focus on the sensorial sense, thus providing insights into the secrets of material studies and contributing to a better understanding of the quality of good design.
