Children encounter design around the clock: Whether it is the bed in which they sleep, the pencil they use for homework or the toy they play with in their free time. In most cases, they are not aware of the fact that every product they use in their everyday life, features a very special design.
On Wednesday, 17 August 2016, the Red Dot Design Museum Essen offers an exciting guided tour for kids from eight to ten years from 11 a.m.–12.30 p.m. Under the motto “Design at the fingertips”, tomorrow’s creative minds will go on a journey of discovery in the world’s largest exhibition of contemporary design. In a comprehensible way, the offer, which is especially catered to the young visitors, acquaints them with the topic of design and transfers knowledge about the basic principles of good design.
Touch, listen and learn: During the experience tour of the Red Dot Design Museum the kids will discover industrial materials. Being the basis of every product they meet in their everyday life, materials are of high importance in the design process: They are decisive regarding the fact that an item feels good, whether it is cold or warm, whether it is experienced as smooth or rough. In playful exercises, the kids feel, listen to and learn about the characteristics of various materials and are being let into the secrets of material studies. The experience tour contributes to a better understanding of the quality of good design and fosters the children’s creative talent and curiosity about their environment.
