Children encounter design around the clock: Whether it is the bed in which they sleep, the pencil they use for homework or the toy they play with in their free time. In most cases, they are not aware of the fact that every product they use in their day-to-day-life, features a very special design.
On Tuesday, 16 August 2016, the Red Dot Design Museum Essen offers an exciting guided tour for children from six to seven years from 3–4.30 p.m. Under the motto “The ABC in design”, tomorrow’s creative minds will go on a journey of discovery in the world’s largest exhibition of contemporary design. In a comprehensible way, the offer, which is especially catered to children, acquaints them with the topic of design and transfers knowledge about the basic principles of good design.
The experience tour focuses on the sixth sense, since it is all about perception and the power of imagination which are of particular importance in the creative design process. Playful exercises facilitate children with a special observing technique and train their perception by “stretching” their imagination. They learn to really see the things they look at: the hammer, which is shaped like the letter “T”, or the cup which reminds one with its handle of a “P”. This way, the tour fosters the children’s creative talent and curiosity about their environment.
