The kitchen: design and use through the ages

Public tour
31 January 2021
12:00 - 14:00 h

The combined tour on the subject of kitchens explores the question of what tasks the kitchen fulfils today and how it came about - from the pre-industrial era to the present day. Whereas the kitchen used to be primarily the strictly functional "woman's kingdom", it has opened up in recent decades and has become the focal point of many apartments and houses, where, in addition to cooking and baking, a large part of (family) life also takes place. The tour makes this change comprehensible by means of examples from the past (Ruhr Museum) and present (Red Dot Design Museum) and provides exciting insights into social and technological developments in the context of the kitchen.

Combined tour of the Ruhr Museum and the Red Dot Design Museum
