On Sunday, 5 June 2016 design fans and all those, who want to become it, go on a journey of discovery in the world’s largest exhibition of contemporary product design. On the occasion of the World Heritage Day 2016 at Zollverein coal mine, the public tours of the Red Dot Design Museum Essen informs about latest industrial design, product culture and the fascinating architecture of the house from 1–2:30 p.m. and from 3–4:30 p.m.
The one hour and a half tours of the former boiler house of Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex allow for interesting insights into the world of well-shaped and sophisticated designs. The visitors learn about latest trends in the various fields of international product design, about cultural and country-specific characteristics and how design has changed over the years.
Chic lifestyle accessories, innovative consumer electronics or shapely furniture – about 2,000 exhibits from 45 nations impart the outstanding quality of design. Since good design becomes especially apparent in use, touching and testing is important and particularly allowed. Excellently designed products help for example to make life easier, to make our working environment safer and to spend our time in a more comfortable way. The participants of the public tours will gain a new consciousness of design and will see their surrounding through different eyes.
