Material meets Design

Special exhibition
28 November 2017
until 04 March 2018

Materials and surfaces are of special importance in our daily life. They affect, even if mostly subconsciously, the way we perceive our surrounding – their appearance and haptics have a formative influence on the product experience. From a ceramic tile, which realises the concept of continuous surfaces, to biomimetic fish and reptile skin to a T-shirt, which is dyed with graphite: The exhibition “Material meets Design” presents smart materials and shows exemplary products which were decisively influenced by them.

Being drivers for innovation in design, new technologies and materials – frequently also in combination with each other – open up further fields of application for designers and manufacturers. In form of elaborate products, material novelties thus contribute to improving the quality of life. Visitors can experience this at first hand, since they can touch many of the exhibited materials, intelligent detail solutions and exciting everyday objects.

“Material meets Design” showcases a selection of materials and products which were awarded for their good design quality. An international jury bestowed a prize on them in the Red Dot Award and/or “interzum award”. The exhibition offers in particular manufacturers and designers a comprehensive source of inspiration. Moreover, it also invites design-affectionate lay people to discover materials which are sensible and sensuous at the same time.
